meet Cheryl Turner
Cheryl Turner is a trial lawyer, civil litigator and transactional attorney. She serves as the Managing and Lead Attorney for all civil jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations for her firm. For more than 20 years, she managed her own law practice, with an emphasis on consumer rights, civil rights, business, tax law, insurance, real estate, criminal law and personal injury matters. Ms. Turner also advises clients on tax-related and regulatory corporate compliance issues.
Ms. Turner was first inspired to become a lawyer when she was selected to recite portions of the United States Constitution to her classmates of her middle-school graduation. In high school, she was a member of the track team, learned to play various musical instruments, competed on local swim teams., and graduated from high school with honors.
She attended the University of Southern California (USC) as an undergraduate merit scholar. While at USC, she further developed her interest in the law while working part-time for California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ), an organization dedicated to defending constitutional rights, ensuring due process, equal protection and the right to counsel. She held various student leadership roles and graduated cum laude with honors. During this time, she began advocating for student rights.
Ms. Turner earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Psychology before attending USC Gould School of Law. While in law school she served as the President of a law student association, was a student representative to the USC President's Advisory Council, competed and placed in Moot Court competitions, and worked as a law clerk extern for the Honorable James Ideman of the United States District Court. She received the American Judicature Award for Outstanding Achievement in Appellate Advocacy.
Recognized as one of the Lawyers of Distinction, Ms. Turner is honored for her excellence in civil litigation. Through her dedication to protecting constitutional and consumer rights and ensuring access to justice, she has established herself as a leading advocate for civil justice.
Her legal background includes experience as a judicia law clerk extern for a United States District Court judge, in-house legal counsel for insurance companies, an attorney at firms specializing in class-action litigation, a government relations advocate, and a consultant in constitutional rights.
Ms. Turner has served as outside insurance defense counsel for companies representing prime contractors and subcontractors on major public infrastructure construction projects, including for the Los Angeles Metro construction
Her litigation experience includes real estate, land use disputes, title and ownership matters, zoning and development issues. Ms. Turner represents both employers and employees in employment related matters, including wrongful termination claims. In banking and finance, she has served as litigation counsel for the Federal Deposit Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC)) involving asset recovery and disposition.
EXPERIENCED AND DEDICATED WITH A STRONG COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE
Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Turner has received the American Judicate Award of Outstanding Achievement in Appellate Advocacy, recognition for her work as legal counsel to the NAACP, and commendations from local, state and federal elected officials for her leadership and advocacy. She has served as an arbitrator on the Ford Consumer Dispute Resolution Board. She was selected to serve as the Area Representative to the South Coast Air Quality Management District's Advisory Council on the Clean Air Act to advocate for clean air in our community. She serves on the board of the FAME Santa Monica Redevelopment Corporation, which develops, constructs, and manages permanently affordable senior housing in the County of Los Angeles. In 2021, she was elected as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA). She is a frequent media spokesperson on rental housing issues and has published over 40 articles on property owners' legal rights and responsibilities.
Ms. Turner is admitted to practice law in California, as well as the federal courts in California, Arizona, Texas and Missouri, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court. Since 2021, she has been serving as a Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Courts.
Cheryl is a lifelong resident of Los Angeles.
